Western Bigeyed Bug Nymph and Aphid Prey

Western bigeyed bug, Geocoris pallens (Hemiptera: Lygaeidae), adults and nymphs feed by sucking the body fluids from their prey. Adults are 3 to 6 mm long. Nymphs resemble adults except they are smaller and lack wings. Adults and nymphs have prominent eyes which are characteristic of this group of predators. Adults appear in the spring and begin feeding on available prey. There are two or more overlapping generations each summer.
