| Redbacked cutworm larvae, Euxoa ochrogaster (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae), are seldom a pest on potato because larvae generally occur in the spring before tubers are set. Mature larvae are 35 to 40 mm long, often marked with a red or reddish-brown top stripe. Adults have a wingspan of about 40 mm and vary in color from pale clay-yellow to reddish. Larvae feed beneath the soil surface on roots. The most serious injury occurs in late March and April. |
