| Several species of lygus bugs, Lygus spp. (Hemiptera: Miridae), occur in potato fields as well as in other crops, such as alfalfa and vegetable crops grown for seed. Adults and nymphs damage plants by directly feeding on plant juices. Adults are 6 to 7 mm long and marked with a "V" shaped or triangular mark on the back. Color ranges from light green to shades of brown or black. Nymphs are 1 to 6 mm long, green or yellow-green, with black spots on the back. Adults and nymphs are present from May through September and there are usually three or four generations each year. |
